Our Team

Eric Ridenour

Eric Ridenour, CPA, CFP®

Eric is the President & CEO for Colony Family Offices and Colony Trust Company. He develops strategy and direction concerning the firm‘s service offerings and how Colony meets the needs of each family. He also serves clients throughout the Southeast focusing on each family‘s unique wealth planning objectives and needs. He has more than 24 years of tax, estate and wealth planning experience for ultra-high net worth individuals and families. Prior to joining Colony, Eric served as President for the Carolinas and Tennessee region of GenSpring Family Offices, LLC. In addition to assisting clients with tax, estate, investment, charitable and business succession planning needs, he was responsible for the growth and management of the Carolinas and Tennessee region for GenSpring. Prior to working at GenSpring, he served as a Senior Manager with Deloitte & Touche and co-headed the Family Wealth Planning Group for the Southeast. He also worked with the National Tax Office and served on the National Family Wealth Planning Committee. He started his career at Elliott, Davis & Company and worked in the tax department.

Eric received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting from Bob Jones University. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and has held several securities licenses over his career.

Sarah Brock

Sarah Brock, CFP®

Sarah is the Chief Compliance Officer for Colony Family Offices and Colony Trust Company. Sarah manages the client service team, who provide operational and analytical services for families. She works closely with families on various projects, specializing in family foundation administration.  In her role as Chief Compliance Officer, she is responsible for proactively identifying, evaluating, mitigating, and reporting on compliance and operational opportunities. Sarah has more than 14 years of operational, planning, and compliance experience serving ultra-high net worth families.

Prior to joining Colony, Sarah was a Family Services Coordinator at GenSpring Family Offices, LLC, where she worked closely with client services teams to provide comprehensive support and dedicated service to ultra-high net worth clients. She also served on various committees to improve operational efficiencies, allowing for more focus on serving clients. Sarah began her career at Carolina Capital Consulting, serving high net worth families and supporting the organization as compliance manager.

Sarah earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Queens University of Charlotte graduating magna cum laude, and is an MBA candidate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.  Sarah also holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation.  

Tom Byrd, CAIA

Tom Byrd, CAIA

Tom is the Chief Investment Officer for Colony Family Offices and Colony Trust Company. He manages the strategic relationship with Greycourt & Co. and works closely with family clients, where he is responsible for the overall integrated investment process. Tom brings more than 16 years of investment management experience to Colony. Previously, Tom was a Family Investment Officer at GenSpring Family Offices, LLC, responsible for the introduction, implementation, and management of GenSpring‘s investment process for client families. His duties included investment policy formation, asset allocation strategy development, investment manager selection, and client relationship management. Prior to GenSpring, Tom was a portfolio manager in the external manager strategies group at Franklin Street Partners, an investment firm in Chapel Hill, NC. In that role, he directed the firm‘s investment manager research effort in the public equity space and co-managed a global equity and credit fund of funds. Tom was also a member of the firm‘s asset allocation team.

Tom is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill receiving his Bachelor‘s in Business Administration. He also received his Master’s in Business Administration from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School where he earned Beta Gamma Sigma honors. Tom holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation.

C. Shannon Elliotte

C. Shannon Elliotte, J.D., LL.M.

Shannon is a Family Wealth Advisor for Colony Family Offices and General Counsel & Secretary for Colony Trust Company. A native to Charlotte, N.C., he has helped affluent families manage the complexities and responsibilities of wealth across the Southeast for over 21 years.  Shannon spends a significant amount of time helping families plan for major transitions, especially the transfer of wealth between generations.  He especially enjoys helping families implement purposeful programs designed to maximize their financial, intellectual, and human capital.

Shannon began his career as a tax consultant for Ernst & Young, LLP in Atlanta.  He practiced law in North Carolina for over 6 years where he focused on tax and estate planning, commercial real estate, and corporate transactions.  Prior to joining Colony, Shannon served as Chief Fiduciary Officer and Family Wealth Advisor for Arlington Family Offices, and as Director of Financial Planning for Calibre (formerly Wachovia’s Multi-Family Office).    

Shannon earned his B.S.B.A in Economics from Western Carolina University, cum laude, his J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University and his LL.M in taxation from Boston University’s School of Law.  Shannon has written and lectured frequently for various North Carolina continuing legal education programs and was recognized by Legal Services for the Elderly, Inc. as the Mecklenburg County “pro-bono” lawyer of the year in 2002.  

Kathy Habluetzel

Kathy Habluetzel, CPA

Kathy is a Family Wealth Advisor for Colony Family Offices and Chief Operating Officer & Controller for Colony Trust Company. She has worked with affluent families for over 25 years providing income, estate, gift and trust planning. Kathy spends her time assisting clients with their fiduciary responsibilities as trustees and helping clients achieve their wealth, estate and business succession goals in a tax efficient manner. She also enjoys educating the future generations regarding their responsibilities related to the inheritance of wealth.

Kathy spent more than 21 years as a CPA with Arthur Andersen, LLP and then as the Tax Partner in charge of the Carolinas Private Wealth Services practice at Grant Thornton, LLP.  Prior to joining Colony, she spent 3 years as an investment advisor and comes to Colony after 4 years as the family office director for various members of the Belk family.

Kathy earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting at Louisiana State University, graduating magna cum laude, and her Master of Science in Accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, graduating magna cum laude. She is a Certified Public Accountant, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and a member of the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants. She is an active member of the Charlotte Estate Planning Council and past president of the board. Kathy also is a member of the Foundation For The Carolinas Professional Cabinet of Advisors and the Queens University Planned Giving Council. In 2008, she was honored with the Charlotte Business Journal’s Top 25 Women In Business Award. 

Peter Jespersen

Peter L. Jespersen, CFA

Pete is a Portfolio Advisor at Colony Family Offices®.  He helps manage Colony’s investment process and works closely with client families to develop, implement and monitor customized portfolios.  Pete brings more than 12 years of investment management experience to Colony.  Most recently, he served as a Portfolio Manager at Solamere Advisors, where he was responsible for developing and implementing investment strategies for high net worth individuals.  His duties included constructing strategic asset allocations, manager due diligence and selection, as well as client relationship management.  Prior to that, Pete held positions with Wachovia Wealth Management in Washington, D.C. and Charlotte, NC. 

Pete received his B.A. in Economics from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.  Pete has been awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation by the CFA Institute.  He is a regular member of the CFA Institute and the North Carolina Society of Financial Analysts.

David Parker

David M. Parker, CFA

David is a Family Advisor for Colony Family Offices and Colony Trust Company. He serves on the Investment Committee and helps coordinate the business development efforts across the firm.  His work with families spans the full range of disciplines across wealth management including investment strategy, wealth transfer planning, philanthropy, and financial education for the rising generation.  David has more than 25 years of leadership experience in the wealth management industry.  Prior to joining Colony, he was Managing Director at Abbot Downing, the family office practice at Wells Fargo, in Charlotte for seven years where he was responsible for overall relationship management and business development activities.  He worked at Calibre, a predecessor firm to Abbot Downing, as Director of Client Management for six years in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  Prior to Wells Fargo, David held various investment management roles at SouthTrust serving affluent families, foundations and endowments.  David began his career at a single-family office in Birmingham, Alabama.

David is a graduate of the Stephens College of Business, University of Montevallo, having received a Bachelor of Business Administration.  David sits on the Board of Advisors for the Belk College of Business, University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member of the CFA Institute, the North Carolina CFA Society, and the Charlotte Estate Planning Council.
